  1. Why should I upgrade to Lotus Notes 6.5.5?

    Faculty and Staff should upgrade as soon as possible. This version of Lotus Notes offers many improvements, including Sametime instant messaging, improvements to calendaring and scheduling, folder unread marks, color coded emails by sender, follow-up flags, block mail by sender options, and more. Upgrading to Lotus Notes 6.5 will enable quicker and easier upgrades to the more recent versions of Lotus Notes.

  2. What if I decide not to upgrade?

    Everyone on campus must upgrade to Lotus Notes 6.5. Older versions of Lotus Notes are are no longer supported by the manufacturer. By upgrading now, you will be able to receive subsequent upgrades easier, and you will be able to take advantage of the new appearance and the enhanced functionality that Lotus Notes 6.5 has to offer.

  3. Will I be done with the upgrade after I download this software?

    No. The Lotus Notes upgrade process involves two steps. The first step is to download the new Lotus Notes 6.5.5 client. This is the software you will download during the NUnet download process.

    To complete the upgrade process, you will need to apply the Lotus Notes template to your Lotus Notes account. The template contains all of the spam filtering, letterheads, view sorting and overall functionality for mail, calendaring and scheduling. It also dictates the overall look and feel of Lotus Notes.

    When you have completed downloading this software, open your Lotus Notes e-mail. From the top menu, click Actions, and then click Apply 6.5.5 mail template. Type your Notes password to apply the template to your Lotus Notes account. Once the template is applied, you will see another change to the look and feel your mailbox and calendar, and your upgrade will be complete

    Please note that if you upgrade one computer, you will need to perform the upgrade on all machines you use that have Lotus Notes installed, or you may risk losing calendaring functionality. Read the About Shared Calendars section for more information about this issue.

  4. Who will perform this upgrade on my computer?

  5. I work at a remote campus location and I need help to upgrade. What should I do?

    We are scheduling desktop appointments for Lotus Notes upgrades on remote campuses between May 23-25 and June 5- 8. Please call the IS Help Line to schedule an appointment.

  6. My computer is not running Windows XP. Can I still use this upgrade?

    You can use this upgrade with Windows 2000 & XP. If you are using Windows NT, please call the IS Help Line for assistance (617) 373-4357(xHELP).

  7. How do I find out what version of Lotus Notes I am using?

    While Lotus Notes is running, click Help from the top menu bar, then About Notes. The screen will display which version you have installed on your computer. If the window displays a version number lower than 6.5.5, you should upgrade.

  8. Can I upgrade to Lotus Notes 6.5.5 if I am currently using any version of Lotus Notes?

    Yes. This installation will upgrade all prior releases of Lotus Notes.

  9. Do I have to upgrade if I already have Lotus Notes 6.5.5?

    No. You do not have to perform this installation if you have this on your computer already.

  10. I am a coop/workstudy student on coop with a WebMail account. Should I perform this upgrade?

    No. Coop students should not use this upgrade.

  11. Will the upgrade impact my archived documents?

    No. Your archive will not be affected by the upgrade at all.

  12. Should I archive my documents before I upgrade?

    You do not need to archive your documents before you upgrade Lotus Notes.

  13. Will I be able to access my Lotus Notes Databases after I upgrade?

    The upgrade will not affect your access to any Lotus Notes databases.

  14. If I am having problems with the current version of Lotus Notes on my computer, should I upgrade?

    Please call the IS Help Line and report any problems you are having with Lotus Notes before you upgrade. Upgrading to Lotus Notes 6.5.5 may fix issues you are experiencing with the current version of Lotus Notes you currently have, but it is best to contact the IS Help Line before you attempt to upgrade if you are currently having problems.

  15. I installed Lotus Notes by myself. How do I upgrade if the current version of Lotus Notes on my computer is on a drive other than C:\?

    The installation will upgrade Lotus Notes in its currently installed directory.

  16. Lotus Notes 6.5.5 has instant messaging capability. How do I set this up?

    On the top menu in Lotus Notes, click File, then Preferences and then click Location Preferences.Cick the Instant Messaging tab. Under Port, type 1533, under Connect, select At Notes login, and keep all other default settings.

  17. Will the upgrade impact my IMAP, POP or Webmail access to Lotus Notes?

    WebMail users will see very small changes in the user interface. There is no need to update settings with the IMAP/POP.

  18. How can I upgrade to Lotus Notes 6.5.5 on my Apple Mac?

    Lotus Notes 6.5.5 is available on MacApps, and it is available from myNEU. Login to myNEU, click the Services and Links tab, and click Software Downloads in the Faculty /Staff services section.

  19. I use Lotus Smartsuite. How can I upgrade to Lotus Notes 6.5.5?

    You can upgrade to Lotus Note 6.5.5, but you will have to reinstall Lotus Smartsuite after you upgrade.
