Faculty/Staff Web Browser Email
How do I access my email on the Web?
Open a Web browser and type in this address: http://mail.neu.edu. Login using your myNEU username and password. You can obtain a myNEU password by visiting myNEU.neu.edu but please note that it can take up to an hour for newly created myNEU accounts to be recognized by the Web email system.
[back to top]What are some of the features of the new Web based email system ?
The new Web based email system features an improved look and feel over our current Web based email and provides many new features making it possible to:
- Set "out of office" automatic email replies
- Search and sort email quickly and easily
- Use "drag and drop" to manage mail messages (filing, deletion)
- Create personalized email "stationery"
- Read encrypted email (You will also be able to read encrypted mail on your NU Blackberry)
- View at a glance whether a message has been replied to or forwarded
- Delegate meetings and tasks
- Make menu options appear with a rightclick of your mouse (Ctrl click on the Mac)
Your Web based email password and username will be the same as they are now. Also, you will be able to access your mail with a short, easy to remember Web address.
[back to top]What Web browsers are supported by the new web email system?
Internet Explorer 6 & 7, and Firefox 2.0 are supported. On the Mac the new system works with FireFox 2.0, but does not work with Safari. You can download FireFox from http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/.
[back to top]How can I find out how to use the new system?
The login page for your email will feature helpful links. IS Training will be offering sessions as well. Visit the training section of our Website for more information.
I see an "IBM access/deny message" that reappears every time I try to do something on the new email system. What should I do?
The next time the message appears, select remember this decision and then select Allow. By allowing this you will be able to send rich text emails and you will have ctrl-click menu options. Also, you will be able to send email attachments easily.
[back to top]I forward my NEU email to another mail system. How can I continue to do this with the new email system?
Visit http://fsmail.neu.edu/ and click Forward Mail. However, with expanded functionality that the new Web based system has to offer, we suggest you give it a try before you forward it!
I use POP for my NU email. How do I configure my email client for POP?
Visit http://fsmail.neu.edu/ and click Account Information. After you login, your POP Mail configuration information will be displayed. Note the name of your server in the "Server Name" section (the server name will be similar to "mail1.neu.edu"). Returning to your mail client, type the POP server name into the POP server settings. Use your usual webmail username and password so your mail client will be able to authenticate you for incoming mail.
To configure your outgoing (SMTP) server, use the server name "myneusmtp.neu.edu". Locate the "SSL" or "Secure" setting for your outgoing mail server and select it. Make sure the SMTP port is set to 465. Next, select the option called "outgoing server uses authentication" or "use name and password". Use your myNEU account username and password for the outgoing (SMTP) server authentication.
[back to top]I use IMAP for my NU email. How do I configure my email client for IMAP?
First, find your IMAP server name. Your IMAP server name is the same as your POP server name. To find it, visit http://fsmail.neu.edu/ and click Account Information. After you log in, your POP Mail configuration information will be displayed. The name for your IMAP server is listed as "Server Name" (should be similar to "mail1.neu.edu"). Once you know the name of your server, open the account settings in your email client. Select IMAP as your account type, and type your mail IMAP server name. Locate the "SSL" or "Secure" option in your mail client (may be under "Advanced" or "More settings"). Turn on the SSL setting. Make sure your IMAP port is set to 993.
To configure your outgoing (SMTP) server, use the server name "myneusmtp.neu.edu". Locate the "SSL" or "Secure" setting for your outgoing mail server and select it. Make sure the SMTP port is set to 465. Next, select the option called "outgoing server uses authentication" or "use name and password". Use your myNEU account username and password for the outgoing (SMTP) server authentication.
[back to top]I use Advisor Calendar. Can I still use it over the web with the new system?
We strongly recommend that you access the Advisor Calendar through the Lotus Notes client (desktop) application.
The new web email system does not support the Advisor Calendar application. If you want to use Advisor Calendar in a Web browser, you will have to use the old Web email interface. Here's how:
Type http://mail.neu.edu into a browser and login.
When the redirect page appears, click personal options at the center of the page.
Then select Webmail from the drop-down menu.
Click select.The old Webmail interface will appear.

I am a student. How can I access my E-mail?
All students can access their Northeastern University e-mail though myNEU.
[back to top]How can students get myNEU accounts?
- Full-time Undergraduate Admitted Students : You will be contacted by the admissions office with account information
- Full-time Undergraduate Day Students: All Full-time Undergraduate Day Students can sign up for myNEU online. If you had a myNEU account as an Admitted student, your account will be converted before start of school.
- Graduate Students: Contact your college or program to obtain your myNEU account.
- School of Professional and Continuing Studies Students: After you register for your first class, you will be able to go online to sign up for an account. If you still cannot access myNEU, call (617) 373-4357 (xHELP) for assistance.
I cannot remember my password. How can I access myNEU?
Click the "Forgot your password" link under the login box on the myNEU homepage. In order to reset your password, you will need to know:
- Your current myNEU username
- The answer to your challenge question on file
If you do not know these items, you should submit a trouble ticket online through myNEU or stop by the InfoCommons, 184 Snell Library, for assistance.
Faculty/Staff Lotus Notes Email
[back to top]I use the Lotus Notes application and I haven't gotten any new email since my Webmail has been upgraded. What should I do?
After you have been upgraded to Enhanced Webmail, you will have to shut down and restart Lotus Notes twice to continue receiving mail.
How do I get a faculty/staff e-mail (Lotus Notes) Account?
Faculty and staff receive e-mails accounts when they arrive to the university, but contractors and others affiliated with Northeastern who need Lotus Notes and desktop computer access must obtain sponsored accounts to us these resources. Access the sponsored account form here.

Alumni E-mail Account Information
I cannot log in to Lynx and I can't use PPP Dial-up Internet access. My Lynx Web site is gone. What happened?
The Lynx system has been retired. Information services is no longer offering shell accounts, Web space, dial-up access, or e-mail accounts to persons not associated with the University.
Can I open a myNEU account?
No. myNEU Accounts are only available to current students. myNEU accounts are active one year after completing requirements for graduation.
[back to top]When and how can I sign up for my permanent @alumni.neu.edu e-mail forwarding account?
Three months after your graduation date, you are eligible to sign up for your permanent @alumni.neu.edu e-mail forwarding account. It takes awhile for us to transfer all graduation data from the Registrar's office to our files. Once your data is in Alumni Affairs´ system, simply visit NU's Alumni Online Community to sign up.
